A major redesign for Apple’s tvOS is on the horizon, marking the first significant visual change in ten years, according to a prominent tech analyst. This overhaul is reportedly part of a broader initiative to update the look and feel across all of Apple's platforms, including iOS, iPadOS, macOS, tvOS, and watchOS.

Bloomberg's Mark Gurman reports that the new design will draw heavily from the aesthetic of visionOS. The upcoming Apple Worldwide Developers Conference (June 9-13, 2025) is expected to officially unveil these changes. “The main topic at WWDC will be the company’s new software interface. Dubbed “Solarium” – after glass rooms that allow in sunlight – the new look is slicker and more modern. The approach takes many of its cues from visionOS,” Gurman wrote. “One of the major themes this year is consistency and unification across the operating systems.”

Gurman further emphasizes the impact of this update, stating: “That means tvOS and watchOS will both be redesigned to match their more popular siblings.” He suggests that while iOS 7 in 2013 was a major visual shift for the iPhone, this redesign will be even more far-reaching across Apple’s product ecosystem. It’s speculated that the new software may require users of older devices to upgrade their hardware to fully utilize the new features. Older Apple TVs, particularly those over a decade old, are most likely to be incompatible.
