Reports suggest MSNBC anchor Ari Melber may be considering leaving the network. The Daily Beast reported that Melber, host of “The Beat” since 2017, might be exploring options with rival broadcasters or even launching his own independent media company. Sources close to the situation fueled this speculation.
“The Beat” consistently performs well for MSNBC, usually securing second place in its 6 p.m. eastern timeslot and also boasting strong digital viewership. MSNBC hasn't yet commented on the reports. The program is known for its frequent criticism of Donald Trump, including interviews with current and former Trump administration officials. However, it’s unclear whether this focus, especially recently, is a concern for network executives.
The network reportedly experienced unease with former host Joy Reid's frequent anti-Trump commentary on her now-canceled show, “The ReidOut,” which may have influenced her departure in 2025. Many media outlets are facing pressure regarding their coverage of the Trump administration and issues diverging from his agenda. While Melber's commentary is strong, it doesn't reach the same intensity as Reid's.
Another potential factor is MSNBC's forthcoming spin-off into Versant. MSNBC, alongside other Comcast cable channels, is separating from NBC News. While Melber has reportedly met with other networks, the interested parties remain undisclosed. Should Melber enter the independent media sphere, he'd join several high-profile figures who've left network contracts to create their own content, although most are still building their audiences.
