Blackmagic Design has announced the availability of pre-orders for its revolutionary Blackmagic Ursa Cine Immersive camera. This marks the first commercially available camera system specifically engineered to capture Apple Immersive Video for the Apple Vision Pro, with shipments anticipated to commence in early 2025.
To complement the camera, DaVinci Resolve Studio will receive an update in early 2025, incorporating support for Apple Immersive Video editing. This provides professional filmmakers with a comprehensive end-to-end workflow. Apple Immersive Video is a groundbreaking 180-degree media format utilizing ultra-high-resolution immersive video and Spatial Audio, placing viewers at the heart of the action. "We are excited to begin accepting pre-orders for the new Blackmagic Ursa Cine Immersive camera and preview a true end-to-end workflow for Apple Immersive Video with DaVinci Resolve," stated Grant Petty, Blackmagic Design CEO. "We are looking forward to working closely with filmmakers and production companies on the Blackmagic production workflow for Apple Immersive Video before releasing the camera to a wider audience later in 2025. We can’t wait to see the amazing action, drama, concerts, sports and other incredible experiences our customers will capture in this powerful new format pioneered by Apple."
The Blackmagic Ursa Cine Immersive boasts a pre-installed, custom lens system meticulously designed for Apple Immersive Video. Its sensor delivers an impressive 8160 x 7200 resolution per eye, featuring pixel-level synchronization and 16 stops of dynamic range. This allows cinematographers to capture 90fps 3D immersive cinema content in a single file. The lens system’s precise positional data, calibrated and stored during manufacturing, is embedded within the Blackmagic RAW file, streamlining post-production.
A new DaVinci Resolve Studio version, slated for release in Q1 2025, introduces tools for editing, color grading, and producing Apple Immersive Video. Key features include an immersive video viewer for panning, tilting, and rolling clips, and the ability to bypass Apple Vision Pro transitions using FCP XML metadata for clean master files. Export presets facilitate quick output for direct viewing on Apple Vision Pro.
Built on the robust Blackmagic Ursa Cine platform, the camera features a magnesium alloy chassis and carbon fiber polycarbonate composite skin. Connectivity includes 12G-SDI, 10G Ethernet, USB-C, and XLR audio. A fold-out monitor displays a 5″ HDR touchscreen and an external color status LCD. A dedicated assist station with a second 5″ HDR touchscreen enhances on-set workflow. Powering options include an 8-pin Lemo connector compatible with 24V and 12V supplies.
The Ursa Cine Immersive includes an 8TB internal network storage, enabling direct recording to the Blackmagic Media Module, and real-time syncing to Blackmagic Cloud and DaVinci Resolve. It supports recording over 2 hours of 8K stereoscopic 3D immersive Blackmagic RAW. The new Blackmagic RAW Immersive file format simplifies immersive video post-production, supporting Blackmagic global media sync. Metadata, lens data, and LUTs are stored for consistent image quality.
Featuring built-in Cloud Store technology, the camera allows high-resolution recording and high-speed 10G Ethernet access. A small H.264 proxy file is generated for quick cloud uploads. The Blackmagic Media Dock speeds up post-production, supporting up to three Blackmagic Media Modules for simultaneous access to media from multiple cameras. Four 10G Ethernet ports enable fast connections to multiple workstations.
The Blackmagic Ursa Cine Immersive is available for pre-order at $29,995 (US), with deliveries beginning in late Q1 2025. Reseller availability will follow later in the year.
