Blackmagic Design has opened pre-orders for the Blackmagic Ursa Cine Immersive camera, the first commercially available system designed to capture Apple Immersive Video for Apple Vision Pro. Shipments are expected to begin in early 2025.

DaVinci Resolve Studio will receive an update early next year to support editing Apple Immersive Video, providing a complete workflow for professionals. Apple Immersive Video is a 180-degree format using ultra-high-resolution video and Spatial Audio for an immersive viewer experience. “We are excited to begin accepting pre-orders for the new Blackmagic Ursa Cine Immersive camera and preview a true end-to-end workflow for Apple Immersive Video with DaVinci Resolve,” said Grant Petty, Blackmagic Design CEO. “We are looking forward to working closely with filmmakers and production companies on the Blackmagic production workflow for Apple Immersive Video before releasing the camera to a wider audience later in 2025. We can’t wait to see the amazing action, drama, concerts, sports and other incredible experiences our customers will capture in this powerful new format pioneered by Apple.”

The Ursa Cine Immersive features a fixed, custom lens system capturing Apple Immersive Video for Apple Vision Pro. The sensor provides 8160 x 7200 resolution per eye, pixel-level synchronization, and 16 stops of dynamic range, allowing for 90fps 3D immersive cinema content capture to a single file. The lens system is designed for the Ursa Cine’s large format sensor, storing calibrated positional data within the Blackmagic RAW file.

A new DaVinci Resolve Studio version (Q1 2025) includes tools for editing, color grading, and producing Apple Immersive Video. Key features include an immersive video viewer for 2D and Apple Vision Pro viewing, and the ability to bypass Apple Vision Pro transitions using FCP XML metadata. Export presets streamline output for Apple Vision Pro.

The Blackmagic Ursa Cine platform is known for its robust magnesium alloy chassis and lightweight carbon fiber design. It includes 12G-SDI, 10G Ethernet, USB-C, XLR audio, and dual 5″ HDR touchscreens. The camera uses an 8-pin Lemo power connector (24V/12V) and comes with a 250W power supply, B-mount battery plate, top handle, antennas, baseplate, and more. The built-in 8TB storage records directly to the Blackmagic Media Module, syncing to Blackmagic Cloud and DaVinci Resolve in real time.

The new Blackmagic RAW Immersive file format simplifies immersive video post-production, supporting Blackmagic global media sync and storing metadata, lens data, and more. Blackmagic Ursa Cine Immersive includes high-speed Cloud Store technology, enabling high-resolution recording and access via 10G Ethernet. A smaller H.264 proxy file can be uploaded to Blackmagic Cloud for real-time studio access.

Blackmagic Media Dock allows for high-speed access to media from multiple cameras. The four 10G Ethernet ports support up to four edit workstations. Pre-orders are available now for $29,995 (US), with deliveries starting in late Q1 2025. Reseller availability follows later in the year.
