Canal+ has finalized a significant agreement, committing €480 million to French cinema over three years. This investment will secure early television broadcast windows for films on its primary channels, Canal+ and Cine+ OCS.

The deal, retroactive to January 1st, 2025, and lasting until December 31st, 2027, provides Canal+ with access to films just six months after their theatrical release. The financial commitment is structured as follows: €150 million in 2025, €160 million in 2026, and €170 million in 2027.

In an official statement, Canal+ expressed gratitude to film organizations BLIC, BLOC, and ARP for their contributions to finalizing the agreement. “With this agreement, the CANAL+ group thus reinforces its essential role as the leading partner of French cinema and its ability to leverage its framework agreements with major American studios in the first window 6 months after their theatrical release. It also maintains its ability to offer the best of French and European cinema. Cinema is the primary motivation for CANAL+ subscriptions, and the group is proud to perpetuate its central role in the creative ecosystem and in preserving the French cultural exception.”

Canal+ is also expanding its support for “diversity films,” those with budgets under €4 million. This significant investment follows earlier concerns raised by Canal+, who threatened to reduce funding after Disney+ secured a similar agreement, allowing it to broadcast films nine months after theatrical release.
