CNN anchor Jim Acosta is leaving the network. His departure follows the cancellation of his 10 a.m. program, "CNN Newsroom," and a reported offer to anchor a midnight to 2 a.m. newscast. “Jim has had a long, distinguished nearly 20-year career at CNN, with a track record of standing up to authority, for the First Amendment and for our journalistic freedoms. We want to thank him for the dedication and commitment he’s brought to his reporting and wish him the very best in the future,” said a CNN statement.
Acosta, known for his frequent clashes with the Trump White House, gained prominence during Donald Trump’s presidency. After Acosta announced his departure on-air January 28, 2025, Trump posted on Truth Social: “Word is that he wants to QUIT, and that would be even better. Jim is a major loser who will fail no matter where he ends up. Good luck Jim!”
The network's recent scheduling changes included moving Wolf Blitzer to mornings. The offer to Acosta included anchoring a late-night newscast aimed at international and West Coast audiences, potentially requiring a move to Los Angeles. Acosta declined this offer and chose to leave CNN instead. He has created a Substack account, hinting at future projects but providing no specifics.
