Austrian public broadcaster ORF has revamped its HbbTV-based smart TV user interface and launched its own news app. This provides viewers with the latest national and international news on their TV screens in a new design. The service is accessible via the red button on the remote control for all HbbTV-capable TV sets within Austria.
“In all further developments of ORF’s digital offerings, we are focussing on the interests of the audience: We are currently seeing a clear trend towards increasingly accessing on-demand content on the TV screen, which has intensified since the launch of our new streaming platform ORF ON. With the redesigned HbbTV portal and the new HbbTV news app, we want to offer everyone in Austria a comprehensive overview of the ORF television programmes, the content highlights of ORF ON and the latest news,” said Stefan Pollach, Head of ORF’s Online and New Media Department.
The revised HbbTV portal emphasizes programme highlights from the ORF ON streaming platform and ORF’s linear TV channels. Viewers can easily access additional information about selected TV formats and access missed programmes on-demand with a single click using their remote control. The start page features HbbTV apps such as ORF ON, weather, weather cams, Ö1, Ö3, FM4 and Teletext.
