Scott Padgett, chief meteorologist at KTVT in Dallas, is making a big move. After announcing his departure from the Dallas market in April 2025, he's heading to the Big Apple to join WCBS in New York City on June 30, 2025. His last day at CBS News Texas is May 30, 2025.

Padgett joined KTVT in 2013 and has been part of the station's “reimagined” morning newscast since June 2024. “We are thrilled to see Scott transition to CBS New York. We thank him for his outstanding contributions and wish him the very best,” said KTVT news director Meagan Harris.

While his specific role at WCBS is unclear, the station's current team includes chief forecaster Lonnie Quinn, who recently returned from leave following a brain injury. John Elliott currently holds the weekday morning weather slot, supported by Vanessa Murdock, Tony Sadiku, and Craig Allen. Allen, a veteran of WCBS Newsradio 880, works part-time for WCBS New York.

Quinn's recent return and increased involvement with “CBS Evening News” since January 2025, covering major weather events, are part of CBS News' broader push to enhance its weather and climate coverage. With Quinn, Elliott, Murdock, and Sadiku, WCBS has a common four-person full-time weather team, with Allen filling in as needed. The article notes that having additional forecasters is beneficial, particularly during severe weather.
