Sky Deutschland, the German pay-TV broadcaster, has made its Sky Stream streaming service available to its existing Sky Q customers using the Sky Q IP box. This upgrade replaces the existing Sky Q over IP service and its accompanying streaming box. Many customers have already received this free upgrade, with the rest to follow shortly.

The Sky Stream box connects to your television and home network via Wi-Fi or Ethernet. It provides access to approximately 100 free-to-air TV channels, primarily in HD resolution, and integrates major streaming services like Netflix and Disney+. It also offers access to broadcasters’ media libraries alongside Sky's extensive film, series, and sports content, all of which can be added as needed.

A standout feature of Sky Stream is its sophisticated content navigation. The Smart Search function helps users locate films and series across various providers without switching apps. Voice control further streamlines content discovery. Other functionalities include Time Shift for pausing live TV, restart options for compatible programs, and an integrated program guide for linear TV. Personalized playlists allow users to create tailored content selections for the whole household.

Sky Stream continues to deliver live sports coverage, including the Bundesliga, Premier League, DFB-Pokal, and Formula 1. The upgrade process is automatic and requires no customer intervention. Existing Sky Q IP remote controls remain compatible, and Sky offers support and guidance on the new interface through its homepage.

Sky Stream launched in Germany on July 31, 2024, mirroring the channel lineup of Sky's cable and satellite packages, including UHD/HDR content with the appropriate subscription. This move underscores Sky's shift from a traditional cable and satellite TV provider to a leading streaming platform.
