SI Imaging Services, a South Korean company, announced a significant contract on September 2nd. They've leased the capacity of their Earth-observation satellite, SpaceEye-T, to a European client. The deal is worth more than 10 million euros (approximately $11.7 million).
SpaceEye-T, boasting a native resolution of 25 centimeters per pixel, achieved orbit in March via a SpaceX Transporter-13 rideshare mission. Developed and owned by Satrec Initiative, SI Imaging Services' parent company, the satellite is a key player in the growing Satellite-as-a-Service market.
This lease represents a considerable achievement for SI Imaging Services. As Moongyu Kim, CEO of SI Imaging Services, stated in a press release: “The Satellite-as-a-Service model “offers clear advantages in terms of data accessibility and security, with global demand rising rapidly,” “The agreement shows that SpaceEye-T has earned international trust, marking a significant step in joining the global space industry trend.”
SI Imaging Services previously advertised the SpaceEye-T satellite's leasing options in a March 30th Instagram post, highlighting key features. “With end-to-end encryption & automated data deletion, even SI Imaging Services cannot access your tasking records,” the post noted. Their September 2nd news release further emphasized customer benefits: “Customers can gain exclusive access to the satellite’s image tasking capacity without the need to own the satellite,” enabling “customers to capture imagery over their regions of interest and receive data in near real-time.”
