A new report from Gracenote, a Nielsen business unit, reveals a significant increase in streaming content across leading platforms. From February to May, the availability of TV shows, movies, and sports programming on Amazon Prime Video, Apple TV+, Disney+, Netflix, and Paramount+ jumped by 5 percent.
This represents approximately 4,500 new unique titles, pushing the total catalog size to record highs. Netflix experienced the most substantial growth, with an 18.2 percent increase, boosting its share of the total titles to 20.1 percent.
Other platforms also saw growth, with Apple TV+ adding 3.7 percent, Amazon Prime Video 3.2 percent, Disney+ 1.6 percent, and Paramount+ 1 percent. Sports programming demonstrated the most significant expansion, growing by 7.8 percent—almost double the growth rate of movie content and exceeding the 6.9 percent growth in TV programming.
Amazon Prime Video, Disney+, and Netflix collectively host 92 percent of all sports programming across the tracked services. Gracenote chief product officer Bill Michels highlighted the implications of this trend: “Regardless of program type or any other attribute, effective content discovery helps streamers connect viewers to the entertainment they’ll enjoy most and get the most value out of each of the assets in their catalogs,” he stated.
Gracenote’s analysis, published through the Gracenote Data Hub, offers a comprehensive overview of content availability, genre distribution, and other key metrics. The Data Hub aggregates data from over 260 streaming catalogs, encompassing more than 40 million titles. The report emphasizes the increasingly dynamic nature of the connected TV app and content distribution landscape.
According to Gracenote, this dynamic environment underscores the importance of reliable metadata and content analytics for video services, advertisers, and content owners making decisions around licensing, distribution, and audience engagement.
