The Pentagon recently unveiled a series of significant leadership changes within the US Space Force. These appointments impact key command and planning positions, reflecting a shift in priorities.

Lt. Gen. David Miller assumes the role of deputy chief of space operations for strategy, plans, programs, and requirements, succeeding Lt. Gen. Shawn Bratton. Previously, Miller commanded Space Operations Command at Peterson Space Force Base in Colorado.

Lt. Gen. Douglas Schiess is the new deputy chief of space operations for operations, replacing retired Lt. Gen. DeAnna Burt. Schiess's previous position was leading U.S. Space Forces–Space and serving as Combined Joint Force Space Component Commander at Vandenberg Space Force Base in California.

Two promotions were also announced. Maj. Gen. Gregory Gagnon has been nominated for a third star and will lead U.S. Space Force Combat Forces Command at Peterson Space Force Base. This command, successor to Space Operations Command, highlights the increased focus on combat readiness and warfighting.

Gagnon's previous role was deputy chief of space operations for intelligence. Additionally, Maj. Gen. Steven Whitney received a nomination for promotion to lieutenant general. He will transition to the Joint Chiefs of Staff as director of force structure, resources, and assessment (J-8), influencing force structure and resource priorities across the U.S. armed forces. Whitney's previous position was director of staff at Space Force headquarters.
