Warner Bros. Discovery (WBD) has revealed a significant restructuring plan, resulting in the creation of two independent companies. The new structure places the “Discovery” brand at the forefront of one entity, to be known as “Discovery Global Networks,” as announced on July 28, 2025. The other division will simply be called “Warner Bros.”
This spin-off, anticipated for completion by mid-2026, will redefine the structure of WBD. Warner Bros. will encompass Warner Bros. Television, Warner Bros. Motion Picture Group, DC Studios, HBO, HBO Max, and Warner Bros. Gaming Studios—formerly the “Streaming and Studios” division. Meanwhile, Discovery Global Networks will oversee networks like CNN, TNT, Discovery, HGTV, and Food Network, along with Discovery+.
The split largely reverts WBD to a structure resembling its pre-merger form before WarnerMedia and Discovery Inc. combined in 2022. While similar to the current setup, the spin-off enables separate financial reporting for each entity, opening the possibility of independent acquisitions for either or both companies in the future, although no such plans have been publicly announced.
This strategic move reflects WBD’s concerns regarding the impact of dwindling cable viewership on its profitable sectors. Comcast’s NBCUniversal is also undertaking a similar restructuring, spinning off its cable networks into a new entity named Versant. WBD hasn’t specified whether it will create separate operations for any of its currently integrated units.
Discovery Inc.’s 2018 acquisition of Scripps Networks Interactive, which included food, home, and lifestyle networks, significantly contributed to this current portfolio. While WBD hasn’t unveiled logos for the new companies, the future identities might incorporate elements from their predecessors or feature entirely new designs. The fate of Discovery+’s distribution through HBO Max post-restructuring remains unclear, though there are no inherent limitations.
WBD detailed the leadership structure for both entities. Warner Bros. is currently searching for a chief financial officer and a chief people and culture officer. Discovery Global Networks will be headed by a team which includes the following: A search is underway for a chief communications and public affairs officer for this division.
