Sofia Digital, a Finnish technology company specializing in digital broadcasting and OTT solutions, has joined the DVB Project, an international consortium focused on developing global standards for digital video broadcasting. For over 20 years, Sofia Digital has offered solutions for PSI/SI services, metadata aggregation, and HbbTV servers, fostering interoperability within the evolving media landscape.

This membership allows Sofia Digital to actively participate in shaping new standards, particularly DVB-I, a crucial initiative to integrate traditional broadcasting with internet-based services. DVB-I ensures broadcast-grade quality via internet delivery, creating a seamless viewing experience across traditional and OTT platforms.

Sofia Digital’s contributions to DVB-I include the DVB-I Reference Application and work with the DVB CSR (Central Service Registry). They also provide services like the Sofia Backstage DVB-I Service Manager, aiding broadcasters and operators in managing DVB-I services.

“Joining the DVB Project is a natural progression to our commitment to help shape the future of digital broadcasting. As pioneers in DVB-I technology since the DVB-I Reference Client, we are happy to collaborate with the industry to enable standards that enhance user experiences and drive innovation globally,” said Mika Kanerva, Co-founder and COO of Sofia Digital.
