Warner Bros Discovery is exploring the possibility of selling its Polish entertainment channel TVN as part of a broader restructuring effort, according to the Financial Times. The move comes amid declining share prices and growing pressure from streaming services.
The media giant was formed in 2022 through the merger of Discovery and WarnerMedia, aiming to combat competition from giants like Netflix. However, the company's share price has plummeted by 70% since the merger, leading executives to question the effectiveness of the strategy.
The Financial Times reports that an internal assessment of potential restructuring options concluded that separating linear TV channels from the streaming and studios businesses would be operationally challenging. One executive cited potential legal complexities, explaining that "even a best case scenario would present years of legal challenges" as the company decides which assets to allocate to streaming and which to linear television.
As a result, Warner Bros Discovery is considering potential sales of TVN and the Warner video games business. Selling these assets could provide the company with much-needed capital and a more streamlined focus on its core streaming and studio operations.
