Chris Cuomo, anchor and reporter for NewsNation, has signed a multi-year contract extension to continue hosting his primetime program, “Cuomo.” The announcement highlights the show's growth and Cuomo's contribution to the network.
“Chris is a one-of-a-kind talent whose unrivaled analysis and commentary has helped grow the audience at NewsNation and strengthen our brand,” stated Sean Compton, president of Nexstar’s networks division. “He believes strongly in NewsNation’s mission of delivering ‘News for All Americans’ and we are extremely pleased that he will remain a staple of the network’s primetime lineup.”
Cuomo’s show, airing at 8 p.m. eastern, features daily news, interviews, analysis, and commentary. “Of course I am staying. Where else but NewsNation can you expose the game instead of being forced to play? Let’s get after it!” Cuomo said in the announcement.
NewsNation claims “Cuomo” ratings have “doubled across key measurements,” with a 54% increase in total viewers and a 28% rise in the adult 25-54 demographic. Specific details regarding the doubled metrics weren't provided, and a request for clarification went unanswered. While showing growth, NewsNation's overall ratings remain significantly lower than major competitors like CNN and Fox News.
At launch, “Cuomo” drew an estimated 147,000 viewers. CNN averages 367,000 primetime viewers (8-11 p.m.), while Fox averages 2.5 million. CNN's viewership in the 25-54 demo averaged 67,000, considerably lower than other networks.
