GB News is set to open a Washington, D.C. bureau and launch a nightly two-hour program from the United States, the company announced on Monday. Since its 2021 launch, GB News has positioned itself as an alternative to mainstream UK news channels. The network has garnered attention for its editorial stance and its frequent coverage of right-leaning political figures, including Reform UK leader Nigel Farage, who hosts a regular program.
GB News has also faced regulatory challenges from Ofcom, the UK broadcasting authority. In 2024, the network was fined for broadcasting an interview with then-Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, which Ofcom deemed to provide an “uncontested platform” for campaign messaging.
The new US program will be hosted by presenter Bev Turner and is slated to debut in September, broadcasting from a studio near the White House. This expansion represents the latest in a series of moves by British media outlets into US political coverage. GB News framed the initiative as a response to increased British audience interest in American political developments. “We’ve seen time and again this year that a decision made on one day in Washington, D.C., is felt the next day in Washington, Tyne and Wear,” said GB News’ Michael Booker.
GB News plans to hire a dedicated US political editor and expand its US operations to include in-depth political analysis and exclusive interviews. The network already employs a US correspondent, Steven Edginton, who joined in April. Edginton stated last year that GB News aims to be an “outsider” and “disruptor” in the media landscape.
Turner stated the new program will offer “a British voice with an international perspective,” featuring US-based guests and British commentary. She characterized the initiative as a “market intervention.” This US expansion will put GB News in direct competition with established right-leaning American outlets like Fox News, Newsmax, and One America News Network.
