This article provides a step-by-step guide on how to properly install an F-connector on a coaxial cable. It covers the process of preparing the cable, attaching the connector, and ensuring a secure connection.
While some may think that screwing an F-connector onto a
cable can be done without any instructions, there are a few rules for this
process. We recommend following these rules, because an incorrectly
connected connector can cause a failure of the diseqc switch, converters
and even the receiver.
Cable start
Cutting the cable
Cut the outer protective insulation of the cable with a sharp knife in a
circle at a distance of about 1.5 cm from the end of the cable, trying to
damage the shielding braid as little as possible.
Wrapping the braid
Wrap the braid hairs onto the remaining insulation
Cutting the inner insulation and removing insulation
Cut the inner insulation together with the foil in a circle at a distance
of about 1 cm from the end of the cable, trying not to damage the center
conductor. Turning, remove the cut insulation from the center conductor.
Putting on the F-connector and cutting the center conductor
Put the F-connector on the cable and screw it all the
way. The center conductor should protrude beyond the connector by about 2
mm, trim the excess.
Checking the F-connector
Look carefully inside the connector. Not a single hair of the screen
should touch the center conductor – this is a very important condition.
