MSNBC will undergo a significant rebranding, dropping references to its former parent network as part of a larger restructuring. By late 2025, the network will be known as MS NOW. This change follows Comcast’s planned spin-off of most of NBCUniversal’s linear cable properties, with the new parent company named Versant.
The rebranding involves more than just a name change. The iconic peacock logo, synonymous with NBC, will be removed. Versant explains the new name as a backronym: “My Source (for) News Opinion World.” The original name, MSNBC, stood for “Microsoft NBC,” reflecting its initial co-founders. However, after NBC acquired Microsoft's share, the meaning became obsolete.
A logo released on August 18, 2025, showcases “MS NOW” in all caps, with a flowing banner icon in red and white. The design uses blue as a background or primary stroke color, switching to white on darker backgrounds. The logo's font is a clean sans serif, possibly customized, with a distinct circular “O.” The full backronym, “My Source | News | Opinion | World,” appears beneath the name, set in the Publico font.
The network's previous use of NBC’s proprietary Tinker font is expected to end due to the split. The future of branding conventions, such as “MSNBC Reports,” remains uncertain. The similarity to NBC News Now, a free streaming service remaining with NBCUniversal, is notable. CNBC will also see a logo change but retain its name.
Earlier reports suggesting MSNBC would keep its name proved inaccurate. The transition reflects the significant changes resulting from the NBCUniversal spin-off and the establishment of Versant.
