German antenna specialist Kathrein Broadcast has significantly expanded its international footprint. This expansion is achieved through a strengthened relationship with American Amplifier Technologies (AAT), which has assumed complete ownership of Kathrein Broadcast USA. This strategic action is part of Kathrein's broader realignment strategy; focusing on key markets while simultaneously expanding via strategic international partnerships.
“As part of this strategy, American Amplifier Technologies (AAT) has acquired 100% of the shares in Kathrein Broadcast USA and will continue operating the company under the same name,” stated Jörg Lippert, designated CEO of Kathrein Broadcast GmbH. “This step strengthens our global presence. AAT has been familiar with the U.S. markets for years and can position our products there even more effectively. At the same time, we are building on a close sales partnership with AAT ensuring the Scala product line remains available worldwide.”
The Scala range, specifically developed for the North American broadcast market, is engineered as robust, standardized equipment. It covers a wide frequency spectrum, catering to both traditional broadcasting and modern digital needs. Kathrein asserts that under AAT’s ownership, the products will become “even more closely aligned with the needs of local markets in the future.”
Stephen Wilde, CEO of AAT, added: “We are delighted to acquire Kathrein Broadcast USA Inc. The brand represents the highest technical quality and reliability. A promise we are committed to carrying forward.”
Established in 2008, AAT specializes in the development, maintenance, and repair of broadcast transmission systems. It operates in conjunction with its sister company SWE Services. In 2023, AAT further solidified its market position by acquiring Shively Labs, a US manufacturer renowned for broadcast antennas designed for extreme environments. Currently, the group serves clients in over 100 countries from its headquarters in North Highlands, California.
Kathrein Broadcast, with roots tracing back to 1919 in Rosenheim as part of Kathrein SE, is now an independent entity. Since 1954, it has provided broadcasters worldwide with antenna systems for FM, TV, DAB, and DTV transmission. These systems are engineered for long-term, maintenance-free operation, even in challenging environmental conditions. This agreement with AAT follows recent news of Kathrein Broadcast securing new investors to overcome insolvency, ensuring the company's continued stable operation.
