Get ready for a unique Christmas Day experience! On December 25, 2024, Netflix will launch a new holiday streaming tradition: live coverage of two NFL games. This ambitious undertaking features a star-studded lineup of commentators and promises a thrilling day of football.
The first game pits the Super Bowl LVII champion Kansas City Chiefs against the Pittsburgh Steelers at 1 p.m. eastern. The second game, starting at 4:30 p.m. eastern, will see the Baltimore Ravens facing off against the Houston Texans. Netflix’s website, Tudum, highlights reporting from Pittsburgh, Houston, and Los Angeles.
This partnership with NFL Network leverages their Los Angeles studios for production. Pre-game coverage begins at 11 a.m. eastern in L.A., with on-the-ground reporting from Pittsburgh by comedian Bert Kreischer, who will serve as a tailgate correspondent alongside comedian Nate Bargatze. This comedic duo will also return at halftime.
The game commentary team boasts impressive names. During the games, the commentary team will include prominent figures. “There are two phenomenal matchups,” Watt told Tudum. “The Chiefs and Steelers are both near the top of the AFC — (it will be) an old school battle, hopefully with a bit of snow. Just a perfect Christmas Day game.” Sideline reporting will be handled by CBS reporter Melanie Collins and NFL Network reporter Stacey Dales.
The Baltimore Ravens vs. Houston Texans game, broadcast from NRG Stadium, will also feature a high-profile broadcasting team, along with a special halftime performance by Beyoncé. The games will be accessible on all Netflix subscription levels, adhering to standard screen limitations.
This initiative reflects the broader trend of streaming services incorporating live sports and events to boost viewership and attract new subscribers. The addition of advertising during these broadcasts offers another revenue stream, and special events like this have historically proven effective in driving subscription sign-ups.
