Other World Computing (OWC) and Hedge have formed a strategic partnership to integrate Hedge's Canister software with OWC's Archive Pro systems. This collaboration specifically targets media organizations needing robust solutions for managing extensive data archives.
The partnership includes a Hedge Canister software license, valued at $399, bundled with every OWC Archive Pro purchase. Canister offers intuitive drag-and-drop functionality for Linear Tape-Open (LTO) backups across both macOS and Windows platforms. The Archive Pro system supports a native storage capacity of up to 18TB per tape cartridge, expandable to an impressive 45TB with compression.
“After breezing through one of the easiest setups you’ll ever experience, complete with driver selection assistance, you can immediately drag and drop files to the Archive Pro just like an external drive,” commented Paul Matthijs Lombert, CEO and co-founder of Hedge. The system supports IBM LTO-7, LTO-8, or LTO-9 drives and maintains LTFS compatibility.
OWC highlights a significant 577% return on investment with this solution, claiming up to 55% lower costs compared to traditional HDD storage. Hedge's Canister software includes queuing for continuous transfers and spanning capabilities for tracking files across multiple tapes. Its Library Manager interface provides a user-friendly drag-and-drop experience for tape library management. The software runs natively on both Windows and macOS, with platform-specific optimizations.
This combined solution is aimed at media and entertainment professionals, corporations, government agencies, and small businesses needing reliable, long-term data preservation capabilities.
