The operation of the Yamal-201 communications satellite, which suffered a failure on June 5, will not be restored. This was reported by ITAR-TASS, citing a source in the space industry. "The spacecraft will not be operational. Specialists from RSC Energia (the satellite manufacturer) are trying to restore its operation, but it can be said with a high degree of probability that the satellite cannot be "revived"," he said. In turn, Gazprom Space Systems (GSS), which owns the device, clarified to ITAR-TASS that out of four satellites in the GSS orbital grouping, Yamal-201 is the "oldest" (it was launched in 2003) and was supposed to operate until 2015. A special commission is currently investigating the cause of the failure," the company said. GSS also noted that all traffic that was on Yamal-201 has already been transferred to other satellites in the GSS orbital grouping - Yamal-202, Yamal-402 and Yamal-300K. As a result of the failure on June 5 at 12.50 Moscow time, the operation of communication and broadcasting networks using this satellite was disrupted.
