Amazon has introduced a new feature called X-Ray Recaps, designed to provide viewers with a quick refresh of what they've been watching. The goal of X-Ray Recaps is to offer a convenient catchup that doesn't require subscribers to rewatch content they've already seen or get spoilers for upcoming episodes. The name X-Ray Recaps is inspired by the existing X-Ray feature, which allows viewers to pause and view biographies of the actors currently on-screen.

X-Ray Recaps is an AI-powered feature that creates concise and easy-to-understand summaries of entire seasons of TV shows, individual episodes, and even specific segments within episodes, tailored to the viewer's current progress. "Prime Video product and technology teams work relentlessly behind the scenes to enhance customers' viewing experience, and with the creation of X-Ray Recaps, we’re directly addressing a common problem customers face when streaming content: forgetting where they left off," said Adam Gray, vice president of product at Prime Video. "With this context-aware functionality, Prime Video will deliver summaries of memorable moments and important plot points so our customers can quickly jump back into what they were watching or rediscover why they fell in love with a series in the first place."

Powered by Amazon Bedrock, an AWS service for developing and scaling generative AI applications, X-Ray Recaps analyzes various video segments alongside subtitles or dialogue to produce detailed descriptions of key events, locations, timelines, and conversations. X-Ray Recaps are accessible at any time through the Prime Video detail page or during playback. Once selected, viewers can choose from different types of recaps, including summaries of current episodes, the season so far, or the previous season.
