«Voice of America» is the largest multimedia news organization in the United States, producing content in over 45 languages worldwide for audiences with limited access to free press. Established in 1942, «Voice of America» provides comprehensive, truthful, and independent coverage of news and events.

«Voice of America» is funded by American taxpayers through the U.S. Agency for Global Media.

The editorial independence and fulfillment of the «Voice of America» mission are guaranteed by law, which protects journalists from potential pressure from politicians or government officials.

In 1976, President Gerald Ford signed the «Voice of America» Charter, which states:

«Voice of America» will serve as a reliable and authoritative source of news. «Voice of America» news will be accurate, objective, and comprehensive.
«Voice of America» will represent America, not any one segment of American society, and by virtue of this will present a balanced and comprehensive description of significant American ideas and institutions.
«Voice of America» will represent the actions of the United States clearly and effectively, and will also present responsible discussions and opinions about these actions.
In 1994, the U.S. Congress passed the U.S. International Broadcasting Act. Under this law, «Voice of America» journalists are required to produce authoritative, accurate, objective, balanced content that reflects the cultural and social diversity of American society.

In 2016, the U.S. Congress again indicated that the functions of news gathering and coverage should ensure the independence and objectivity of information.

Every day, «Voice of America» journalists strive to bring the principles of free press to the world.
