Blackmagic Design has announced pre-orders for the Blackmagic Ursa Cine Immersive camera, the first commercially available system designed to capture Apple Immersive Video for Apple Vision Pro. Shipments are expected to begin in early 2025.
An updated DaVinci Resolve Studio, slated for release early next year, will support editing Apple Immersive Video, providing a complete professional workflow. Apple Immersive Video is a 180-degree format using ultra-high-resolution video and Spatial Audio for an immersive viewer experience. “We are excited to begin accepting pre-orders for the new Blackmagic Ursa Cine Immersive camera and preview a true end-to-end workflow for Apple Immersive Video with DaVinci Resolve,” said Grant Petty, Blackmagic Design CEO. “We are looking forward to working closely with filmmakers and production companies on the Blackmagic production workflow for Apple Immersive Video before releasing the camera to a wider audience later in 2025. We can’t wait to see the amazing action, drama, concerts, sports and other incredible experiences our customers will capture in this powerful new format pioneered by Apple.”
The Ursa Cine Immersive features a fixed, custom lens system capturing Apple Immersive Video at 8160 x 7200 resolution per eye, with 16 stops of dynamic range and 90fps 3D capabilities. The lens system's positional data is calibrated and stored on the device, traveling through post-production within the Blackmagic RAW file. The Q1 2025 DaVinci Resolve Studio update includes a new immersive video viewer for easier editing and color grading. Transitions rendered by Apple Vision Pro can be bypassed using FCP XML metadata, ensuring clean master files. Export presets allow for quick output directly viewable on Apple Vision Pro.
Built with a magnesium alloy chassis and carbon fiber, the camera includes 12G-SDI, 10G Ethernet, USB-C, XLR audio, and a 5″ HDR touchscreen monitor with a second assist touchscreen. Powered by a 250W power supply and B-mount battery plate, it's compatible with various high-voltage batteries. The camera boasts 8TB of built-in network storage, recording directly to the included Blackmagic Media Module and syncing with Blackmagic Cloud and DaVinci Resolve. This enables recording over 2 hours of 8K stereoscopic 3D immersive Blackmagic RAW.
The new Blackmagic RAW Immersive file format simplifies immersive video post-production, including support for Blackmagic global media sync. It stores metadata, lens data, and LUTs. Blackmagic Media Dock enhances post-production with high-speed media access from multiple cameras. The Ursa Cine Immersive is available for pre-order at $29,995 (US), with deliveries starting late Q1 2025.
