Blackmagic Design has announced that pre-orders are now open for the Blackmagic Ursa Cine Immersive camera. This marks the first commercial camera system specifically designed to capture Apple Immersive Video for Apple Vision Pro. Deliveries are expected to begin in early 2025.

To complement the new camera, DaVinci Resolve Studio will receive an update early next year, adding support for editing Apple Immersive Video. This provides filmmakers with a complete professional workflow for this innovative format. Apple Immersive Video utilizes a 180-degree field of view, combining ultra-high-resolution immersive video with Spatial Audio for an engaging viewing experience. “We are excited to begin accepting pre-orders for the new Blackmagic Ursa Cine Immersive camera and preview a true end-to-end workflow for Apple Immersive Video with DaVinci Resolve,” said Grant Petty, Blackmagic Design CEO. “We are looking forward to working closely with filmmakers and production companies on the Blackmagic production workflow for Apple Immersive Video before releasing the camera to a wider audience later in 2025. We can’t wait to see the amazing action, drama, concerts, sports and other incredible experiences our customers will capture in this powerful new format pioneered by Apple.”

The Blackmagic Ursa Cine Immersive boasts a fixed, custom lens system pre-installed, optimized for capturing Apple Immersive Video. The sensor provides 8160 x 7200 resolution per eye, with pixel-level synchronization and 16 stops of dynamic range. This allows cinematographers to shoot 90fps 3D immersive cinema content to a single file. The lens system’s precise positional data, calibrated and stored on the device, is embedded within the Blackmagic RAW file, ensuring accuracy throughout post-production.

A new DaVinci Resolve Studio version, slated for release in Q1 of next year, introduces features for editing, color grading, and producing Apple Immersive Video. These include a new immersive video viewer enabling panning, tilting, and rolling of clips, and the ability to bypass Apple Vision Pro transitions using FCP XML metadata for cleaner master files. Export presets facilitate quick output for direct viewing on Apple Vision Pro.

The camera itself builds upon the Blackmagic Ursa Cine platform, sharing its robust magnesium alloy chassis and lightweight carbon fiber polycarbonate composite skin. It includes 12G-SDI out, 10G Ethernet, USB-C, XLR audio, and a fold-out monitor with dual 5″ HDR touchscreens. Power is supplied via an 8-pin Lemo connector compatible with 24V and 12V supplies. The package includes a 250W power supply, B-mount battery plate, top handle, antennas, baseplate, and cables.

Integrated 8TB of high-performance network storage allows direct recording to the included Blackmagic Media Module, with real-time syncing to Blackmagic Cloud and DaVinci Resolve media bins. This enables capturing over 2 hours of 8K stereoscopic 3D immersive Blackmagic RAW footage, and remote access to footage during shoots. The new Blackmagic RAW Immersive file format simplifies immersive video workflow, including support for Blackmagic global media sync and metadata storage.

The Blackmagic Ursa Cine Immersive incorporates high-speed Cloud Store technology, enabling high-resolution recording and access via 10G Ethernet. It also generates a smaller H.264 proxy file for quicker cloud uploads. The Blackmagic Media Dock further streamlines post-production by supporting up to three Blackmagic Media Modules and four 10G Ethernet connections for multiple workstations.

The Blackmagic Ursa Cine Immersive is available for pre-order at $29,995 (US), with deliveries starting in late Q1 2025. Reseller availability is expected later in the year.
