China successfully launched the ChinaSat-9C communications satellite on June 20, 2025, from the Xichang Satellite Launch Center. A Long March 3B rocket propelled the satellite into orbit, replacing the aging ChinaSat-9, built by Thales Alenia Space.

The launch enhances China's domestic broadcasting capabilities. China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation (CASC) confirmed the success shortly after liftoff. The ChinaSat-9C, also known as Zhongxing-9C, is based on the DFH-4E satellite platform, providing increased capacity, power, and flexibility.

This Broadcast Satellite Service (BSS) satellite has a 15-year design life and will offer improved regional coverage for TV and radio using Ku-band and other frequencies. Developed by the China Academy of Space Technology (CAST), it's positioned at 92.2° East in geostationary orbit. The launch follows the recent launch of ChinaSat-3B and adds to China's growing network of geostationary satellites for various applications.

China's space program continues its momentum with this launch, being its 35th orbital launch of 2025. This follows other significant missions, including the Shenzhou-20 and Tianwen-2 missions. Future plans include further developments in low Earth orbit megaconstellations, Tianlian data relay satellites, and medium Earth orbit initiatives.
