Disney+ has significantly broadened its regional content library in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland through a new multi-year licensing agreement with ZDF Studios. This deal will bring over 3,000 episodes and films from ZDF’s extensive catalog to Disney+ subscribers by the end of the year.
Launching on August 27th, the curated collection, titled "ZDF Films and Series," will be seamlessly integrated into the standard Disney+ subscription. This partnership showcases Disney+'s expanding local programming strategy, emphasizing its dedication to providing high-quality, culturally relevant content to European audiences.
"This deal marks an exciting new milestone built on our collaboration with leading European broadcasters," stated Karl Holmes, General Manager of Disney+, EMEA. "We’ve long admired the distinctive storytelling of ZDF’s films and series, and we’re delighted to bring even more local content to Disney+ customers in Germany, Switzerland and Austria."
The new collection will include popular German-language series like SOKO, München Mord, Nord Nord Mord, Marie Brand, and Wilsberg, encompassing family-friendly shows and crime dramas. Furthermore, select new seasons of ZDF shows will be added to Disney+ shortly after their linear TV broadcast, ensuring subscribers have access to the latest content.
This strategic move complements Disney+'s growing library of locally produced originals, such as Interpreter of Silence, Sam – A Saxon, and the upcoming Call My Agent Berlin. It also builds upon previous collaborations with ZDF Studios, which previously brought titles like Der Bergdoktor and Die Bergretter to the platform. Disney+’s active pursuit of partnerships with major European broadcasters is evident, as demonstrated by a similar agreement earlier this year with ITV, launching a content exchange program on July 16, 2025 between Disney+ and ITVX.
