Disney+ and Atresmedia have announced a major collaboration bringing a significant amount of Spanish-language programming to the streaming platform. Spanish subscribers in Spain will gain access to over 300 hours of Atresmedia content annually as part of their subscription. This follows similar agreements Disney+ has made with ZDF in Germany and ITV in the UK.
This deal is unique as it includes Atresmedia making some of its original SVOD series available on Disney+ simultaneously with its own platform. Popular shows like The Voice will appear on Disney+ just one day after their broadcast on Atresmedia's free-to-air channel. Long-running novelas will be accessible either the next day or within a month of their airing.
For Atresmedia, this represents a major step in establishing atresplayer as a leading Spanish platform, reinforcing its strategy to distribute top Spanish productions both domestically and internationally. atresplayer will have its own dedicated section on Disney+, featuring the over 300 hours of content, regularly updated.
Karl Holmes, general manager for Disney+, EMEA stated: “Atresmedia consistently delivers popular, must-watch Spanish content including some of the country’s finest original productions. Adding hundreds of hours of Atresmedia shows to stream on Disney+ is great news for our customers in Spain. He added that the deal also reflects our broader commitment to supporting local broadcasters across Europe.”
Javier Bardají, CEO of Atresmedia, commented: “This pioneering and unprecedented agreement with Disney+, one of the largest international streaming platforms, consolidates the leadership of Atresmedia and atresplayer, reaffirming the success of their innovative content strategy. It allows us to expand the reach of our productions, promoting Spanish talent and culture.”
Starting in September, Disney+ will offer atresplayer originals such as Mar afuera (premiering September 14), hit shows including La Voz and Tu cara me suena, and popular Antena 3 series like La Encrucijada and Sueños de libertad. Classic series like Vis a Vis, Física o Química, and Aquí no hay quien viva will also be available.
