The Digital Video Broadcasting (DVB) organization has unveiled a significant update to its DVB-I specification, published as DVB BlueBook A177r7. This revised version refines the framework for seamlessly integrating television services across both broadband and broadcast networks. The move comes amidst growing adoption of the DVB-I platform, as broadcasters actively explore ways to merge linear television with on-demand viewing experiences. Numerous trials and pilot projects are underway to test this integration.

In an official statement, DVB highlighted the key improvements incorporated into the latest specification. These enhancements aim to address the challenges broadcasters face in delivering a unified viewing experience across multiple delivery methods. Furthermore, DVB has concurrently released an updated version of the Implementation Guidelines for DVB-I, documented as BlueBook A184r2. This update provides crucial guidance in several key areas to aid developers in implementing the standard.

These recent publications are part of a broader initiative to encourage the widespread adoption and successful deployment of DVB-I. Earlier this year, DVB established a dedicated DVB-I Implementers Task Force to facilitate collaboration amongst companies and share best practices for bringing DVB-I services to market. Both DVB BlueBook A177r7 (an interim draft of ETSI TS 103 770 V1.3.1) and the updated Implementation Guidelines in BlueBook A184r2 are now accessible for download from the DVB Specification Library.
