V-Nova has unveiled two new licensing programs for its MPEG-5 LCEVC video enhancement technology. This standardized technology significantly improves compression efficiency and processing performance across various codecs. The announcement, made prior to SET Expo in Brazil, actively promotes LCEVC adoption within ATSC 3.0 and TV 3.0 standards.

The programs provide flexible terms designed to appeal to both streaming services and device manufacturers. Guido Meardi, CEO & Co-Founder of V-Nova, highlighted the company's dedication to delivering affordable, high-quality video across all formats. He stated, “After joining the Access Advance HEVC pool, we are reinforcing our commitment to the industry by announcing the MPEG-5 LCEVC licensing program… Our goal is to deliver better video at lower cost, across broadcast, streaming, and emerging immersive formats, while aligning with customer demand for clear, simple and fair pricing of codec technologies.”

V-Nova's plan for video distributors involves royalties based on user numbers—waived for free-to-air broadcasters—along with early-bird discounts, including a reduced $8 million annual cap. For device manufacturers, the licensing starts at $0.20 per unit, offering further discounts for open-access implementation across all codecs and systems. MPEG-5 LCEVC boasts impressive capabilities, reducing transcoding costs and energy consumption by up to 70% while enhancing compression efficiency by up to 40%.

This technology functions by adding an enhancement layer to existing video, facilitating highly efficient UHD/HD delivery and low-latency streaming with minimal hardware requirements.
