The German market for TV sets demonstrated remarkable stability during the first half of 2025, with sales figures mirroring those of the same period in 2024, totaling 2.1 million units. This consistent performance is attributed to a robust first quarter, experiencing a surge in sales driven by consumers replacing their older sets following the cessation of ARD's standard-definition satellite broadcasts at the beginning of the year. This initial strong performance effectively offset a less vibrant second quarter.
Specifically, Q1 2025 witnessed the sale of 1.2 million TV sets. These figures are sourced from the recent CE-Branchenkompass report, a collaborative effort by German industry associations ZVEI and Deutsche TV-Plattform, in partnership with market research firm NIQ. While smaller screen sizes initially dominated sales early in the year, the second quarter saw a resurgence in demand for larger screens. The sales of TVs with screen sizes ranging from 51 to 65 inches, and those exceeding 65 inches, both experienced a modest but notable 2% growth in unit sales.
However, the broader consumer electronics market, encompassing TVs, accessories, radios, headphones, speakers, and sound systems, as tracked by the Branchenkompass, recorded a decline in revenue. The total revenue for the first six months of 2025 reached €2.7 billion, representing a 6% decrease compared to the corresponding period in 2024. Despite this overall downturn, the sustained performance of the TV sector showcases its resilience within the fluctuating consumer electronics landscape.
