Gray Media is enhancing the viewer experience by broadcasting Super Bowl LVII in High Dynamic Range (HDR) across its Fox NextGen TV affiliates in eight markets. This upgrade provides viewers with improved contrast and a more immersive viewing experience. Several Gray affiliates, including WVUE in New Orleans (this year's Super Bowl host city), WHNS, WBRC, KPTV, and WALA, have recently implemented both Dolby Vision and HDR10+ formats.
Gray has already introduced HDR enhancements at KVVU, WXIX, and WFLX. “Live sports events are the perfect venue to experience the vivid imagery and immersive audio of NextGen TV,” stated Gray’s Chief Operating Officer Sandy Breland. “With these upgrades, millions of fans in our markets can enjoy the highest quality in picture and sound, over-the-air and for free this weekend.”
Beyond HDR, Gray has launched GameLoop, a free NextGen TV gaming channel, in Atlanta and New Orleans. This channel offers classic games like Pac-Man, Tetris, and Doodle Jump, playable using a remote or mobile phone. It also features Planet Crossword, a collaborative crossword experience designed for television. GameLoop is available on WANF (Atlanta, channel 46.20) and WVUE (New Orleans, channel 8.20), with plans for further expansion.
“NextGen TV enables countless advanced features to boost viewer experience,” said Rob Folliard, Gray’s senior vice president and PearlTV chairperson. “We are excited to offer this new interactive option and will continue to increase NextGen TV offerings and value to our audience.”
