MainStreaming, a leader in edge video delivery networks, has joined forces with BT to significantly improve video streaming performance across the UK. This collaboration integrates MainStreaming's services directly into BT's existing mobile and fixed networks. The primary goal is to expand delivery capacity, particularly benefiting large streaming platforms.

This partnership promises several key advantages. Improved quality of experience (QoE) and enhanced reliability for live streaming are paramount. For network providers like BT, the integration offers cost efficiencies through edge caching. Furthermore, content providers will benefit from a capacity-based cost model, providing greater flexibility and control.

Tassilo Raesig, CEO of MainStreaming, stated that "working with BT aligns with both companies’ commercial and technical goals for supporting UK broadcasters." He highlighted the utilization of BT's infrastructure to bolster streaming platforms and underscored the significance of the UK market for MainStreaming. The technical aspects involve exploring BT’s Multicast-Assisted Unicast Delivery (MAUD) technology for live streaming and investigating software-defined edge caching solutions to adapt to evolving consumer and provider needs.

Chris Bramley, Chief Network Architect at BT, emphasized the importance of upgrading network capabilities for optimal streaming experiences. He noted that incorporating MainStreaming's Content Delivery Network (CDN) will directly improve efficiency in video content delivery and enhance the viewing experience for BT customers.
