ProSiebenSat.1, a major German media company, and satellite operator SES have announced an extension to their long-standing partnership. This new long-term agreement guarantees the continued distribution of ProSiebenSat.1’s channels across Germany and Austria via the Astra 19.2° East satellite position.
The agreement includes significant developments for German viewers. It expands capacity for HD services, securing the future availability of ProSiebenSat.1’s linear channels on the Astra platform HD+. Furthermore, the companies plan to integrate the ProSiebenSat.1 streaming service, Joyn, directly into the HD+ TV app, offering seamless access to a wider range of content.
In Austria, the contract extends satellite capacity for both SD and HD programming. The collaboration also encompasses uplink services for ProSiebenSat.1 channels from SES facilities in Munich and Betzdorf (Luxembourg).
“The new agreement with SES Astra is a great signal for viewers who receive our channels via HD+. On the one hand, it secures the long-term distribution of our linear HD channels via satellite, and on the other hand, users of the HD+ TV app will be able to conveniently access the numerous contents of our streaming platform Joyn directly from the HD+ offering. We are thus underpinning our successful partnership with SES Astra with another forward-looking component,” stated Nicole Agudo Berbel, Chief Distribution Officer of ProSiebenSat.1 and Managing Director of Joyn.
Christoph Mühleib, Managing Director of SES Germany, commented: “ProSiebenSat.1’s programmes offer audiences a wide range of entertainment, information and sports and are part of the daily TV routine in households in Germany and Austria. The renewal ensures that viewers will continue to be able to receive their programmes in the future. And I’m already looking forward to being able to browse and access Joyn content very elegantly via the HD+ TV app in Germany in the future.”
