Today, OneWeb and its manufacturing partner, Airbus Defense and Space, are launching the mass production of satellites in the French city of Toulouse. The first "pilot" satellite, according to schedule, should be ready in October.

As a reminder, OneWeb plans to create the world's largest satellite constellation to provide affordable internet access for everyone.

In the initial production phase, OneWeb and Airbus employees will have to work out many practical aspects. So the first few satellites will be disassembled and reassembled in order to debug the production process and bring it to the highest quality. After creating the first pair of test satellites in Toulouse, the priority will be to build 10 devices, fully ready for launch into orbit (using the Soyuz rocket from Arianespace), which should prove the technology's viability in practice.

"We have about nine months left before our first fleet goes into orbit," said Greg Wyler, founder and chairman of OneWeb. "Then, if all goes well, we will begin the world's largest launch campaign, sending new satellites every 21 days and creating not just a fleet, but a digital bridge to provide affordable broadband access for billions of unconnected people around the world."
