Sky has announced an updated version of its Sky Glass TV, the second generation model. This new iteration features a significantly improved 4K Quantum Dot display, promising a brighter and more vibrant viewing experience compared to its predecessor.
The audio has also received a major boost. The Sky Glass Gen 2 now includes a seven-speaker system, incorporating a built-in soundbar and dual subwoofer, resulting in richer bass and clearer vocals. Dolby Atmos technology further enhances the cinematic audio experience.
Consumers can choose from three screen sizes: 43”, 55”, and 65”. Three stylish new colours are available: Volcanic Grey, Arctic Silver, and Atlantic Blue. The remotes are colour-matched to the TV, maintaining a cohesive aesthetic.
Setting up the TV is straightforward. A redesigned stand uses a two-prong system, eliminating the need for screws or tools. A new bespoke wall mount, offering tilt and swivel functionality, is also available, sitting flush against the wall. The TV also maintains compatibility with universal TV mounts.
Commenting on the launch, Fraser Stirling, Global Chief Product Officer for Comcast and Sky, stated: “We built Sky Glass as a brilliantly simple way for people to watch TV, making it easier to find the things they love from Sky and streaming apps. The new Sky Glass Gen 2 gives people our best TV experience yet, with a brighter picture and even more cinematic sound, and with flexible ways to buy it, it’s more affordable than ever to get Sky TV.”
The Sky Glass Gen 2 utilizes the Sky OS platform (formerly Entertainment OS), offering features like personal Playlists for easy access to favorite content from both Sky and various streaming apps. The Playlist feature even handles recordings and saving of episodes across different channels and apps.
Powered by Comcast’s global voice platform, Sky Glass Gen 2 features a far-field microphone, allowing voice control via the command “Hello Sky…”. This enables users to search for shows, actors, or genres, as well as control basic TV functions.
The Sky Glass Gen 2 will be available from February 12th at Sky.com, Sky stores, Sky call centers, and Currys.co.uk. Pricing starts at £14 per month for the 43” model, £19 per month for the 55”, and £24 per month for the 65”.
Later in the year, Sky plans to release Sky Glass Air, a more affordable option with a 4K Quantum Dot HDR screen, global dimming, contrast enhancement, and 2.0 stereo speakers with Dolby Audio. It will be offered in three colors (Carbon Grey, Cotton White, and Sea Green) and the same three sizes. Pricing details for Sky Glass Air will be announced later.
