Sky is implementing significant changes, resulting in the reduction of up to 600 jobs in the UK. This restructuring primarily affects the company's technology division, a consequence of recent product launches and a strategic shift towards a digital-first approach.
The Comcast-owned company will initiate consultations with approximately 900 employees. It's anticipated that roughly two-thirds of those consulted will unfortunately lose their positions. The remaining employees are expected to be reassigned within the company.
The job cuts impact employees based in Leeds, Livingston, and Osterley. A Sky spokesperson commented: “As we look ahead, we are shifting our approach to bring customers the next generation of experience by investing in digital-first service, unbeatable content, and even better performance from our products, powered by the best of global innovation.”
This move follows a period of significant product updates, including the launch of Sky Glass and Sky Stream. Sky employs around 23,000 people in the UK and has already reduced its workforce by approximately 3,000 in the last two years. These previous reductions largely centered on dish installation roles as the company transitions towards IP-delivered services.
