Steve Kornacki has signed a new contract with NBC, but with a significant change: he's leaving MSNBC. This new deal will see him contributing to both NBC News and NBC Sports, utilizing his renowned data analysis skills across various platforms.

The shift is reportedly linked to the planned separation of NBC News and MSNBC following Comcast's spinoff of its cable assets. This restructuring involves creating independent newsgathering teams and separate Washington, D.C., bureaus for each network. Kornacki's extensive experience with both NBC News and NBC Sports, including election coverage and the Olympics, makes this transition a natural progression.

Kornacki’s career began at MSNBC, where he focused on political data analysis. His unique style, often incorporating an interactive touchscreen, made him a recognizable figure. He has appeared across various platforms, including NBC News Now. His new contract ensures continued appearances across NBC News properties.

Kornacki is known for his enthusiastic presentations and distinctive style – khakis, rolled-up sleeves, and a tie. His presence on MSNBC's Studio 3A even led to portions of the set being named after him, including the “Kornacki Curve” and the dedicated “Kornacki Cam.”

While MSNBC hasn't publicly commented on the specifics, a spokesperson indicated they plan to fill Kornacki's role and maintain their commitment to data-driven journalism. His past hosting roles, including the now-canceled weekend morning show “Up” and election specials “The Kornacki Countdown,” highlight his contributions to the network.
