The buffer ratio in video on demand services has reduced by 54% in the first six months of 2024, giving subscribers an improved quality of experience on some of their favourite content. The latest Video Streaming Industry Report by streaming video intelligence specialists NPAW also found a global decrease in the Linear TV buffer ratio of 34% vs H1 2023 and 24% vs H2 2023. The Asia region alone experienced a 35% decrease in buffer ratio. “Telcos, broadcasters and OTTs are investing heavily, thus improving the overall quality of the streaming video landscape. With new players entering the market regularly, it’s becoming much more competitive. We are seeing the world rapidly shift away from traditional TV and towards streaming providers.” said Ferran Vilaró, NPAW CEO & Co-Founder. Improvements were also made in the average bit rate, particularly in Europe, Asia and Latin America.
