Azercosmos, Azerbaijan's national space operator, has solidified its presence in Africa by signing a partnership deal with the Civil Aviation Authority of Botswana (CAAB). This long-term agreement will see the Botswana government agency leverage data services provided by the Azerspace-1 telecommunication satellite.
The partnership was announced on August 8, 2023, and signifies the first instance of satellite data services being offered to Botswana via the African C-band coverage of the Azerspace-1 satellite.
"The CAAB is responsible for the regulation and development of air transport, providing air navigation services, managing airports and advising the government on all aspects of civil aviation," stated the CAAB. This collaboration with Botswana will further solidify Azercosmos' presence in Southern Africa, where it currently supplies satellite services to almost half of the 13 countries in the region.
"This new partnership will enhance the deployment of Azerspace satellite services in large-scale data projects across the region," said an Azercosmos representative. The partnership marks a significant step for Azercosmos in expanding its reach and impact in Africa, demonstrating the company's commitment to providing innovative and reliable satellite solutions to the continent.
