The 2024 U.S. Presidential Election is a significant news event, demanding new approaches from broadcasters. Calrec, a leading provider of audio technology, is helping news broadcasters adapt to the changing landscape of content creation and distribution.

With the increasing reliance on local news, broadcasters are turning to more distributed and agile working patterns. Calrec's remote and centralized production solutions, adopted by companies like NBC Sports, Sky, and the BBC, are helping news outlets generate content more efficiently.

Gray Media, the largest owner of local television stations in the United States, has standardized its audio configurations using Calrec's Type R mixing console. This has enabled them to automate workflows and minimize reliance on physical control surfaces.

Global News, a Canadian news network, is also leveraging Type R's remote connectivity. “We have the ability to adjust things like levels and dynamics remotely using VPN and the Calrec Assist GUI, if needed,” said Ralph Carstens, Systems Specialist, Audio at Global News. “The DSP cores are connected to Viz Mosart, an automation system that allows just one to two operators to control all aspects of news production.”

The rise of social media and diverse content channels means broadcasters are battling for audience attention. Calrec's solutions, like True Control 2.0 and ImPulse V cloud DSP engines, are helping broadcasters create more flexible workflows and expand their reach across multiple platforms.

“As sports broadcasters have increasingly adopted remote workflows to centralize production and generate more content for increasingly diverse channels, news broadcasters are looking to do the same,” said a representative from Calrec. “They’re enabling news outlets to not only generate the localized coverage that viewers have learned to trust, but also to reach bigger audiences by expanding their digital reach into other channels.”

Calrec's technology is allowing news broadcasters to adapt to the evolving media landscape and deliver trusted content to audiences across multiple channels.
