Germany's public broadcasters, ARD and ZDF, have successfully acquired the free-to-air television rights to the UEFA Euro 2028 tournament, which will be held in the UK and Ireland. This significant acquisition was made through their joint sports rights agency, SportA, following a competitive tender process conducted by UEFA, the European football governing body. The agreement has been ratified by the relevant governing bodies at both ARD and ZDF.

The deal grants ARD and ZDF platform-neutral rights to broadcast all 51 matches of the European Championship in 2028. This comprehensive coverage includes all games played by the German national team, should they qualify for the tournament. While financial specifics have not been publicly released, the acquisition underscores the broadcasters' commitment to providing extensive coverage of major football events.

This agreement expands upon the existing broadcasting rights held by ARD and ZDF for other German national team matches. These rights extend through 2028 and encompass games within the UEFA Nations League, as well as preparatory and qualifying matches for the FIFA World Cup 2026 and UEFA Euro 2028. The next opportunity to see the German national team in action on ARD will be on March 20th, 2025, when they face Italy in a UEFA Nations League quarter-final match in Milan.
