The operation of the "Yamal-201" communication satellite, which failed on June 5, may be restored on Monday, June 9, 2014. This was reported to ITAR-TASS by Gazprom Space Systems /GKS/, which owns the device.
"The operation of the spacecraft has not yet been restored. Specialists of RSC Energia /the satellite manufacturer/ will be working on this all weekend. We expect that the device will be back in operation on Monday", - said in GKS.
The failure of the "Yamal-201" satellite, according to preliminary data, occurred due to a malfunction of the spacecraft's service platform.
GKS clarified that orbital backup schemes are being used and up to 50 percent of the "Yamal-201" load has been quickly transferred to the "Yamal-300K" satellite, operating in the same orbital position. Thus, communication and broadcasting interruptions are minimized, GKS emphasized.
