RTL Group's streaming revenue increased by 41.9% to €185 million in the first half of 2024, thanks to the success of its streaming platforms in France and Germany. The company reported a “significantly higher number of paying subscribers, increased prices in Germany and advertising revenue growth at M6+”.
“We have made significant progress in executing our strategy and transforming our businesses by investing, partnering and co-operating more than ever before,” said Thomas Rabe, Chief Executive Officer of RTL Group.
RTL+ saw its viewing hours increase by almost 50% across all age groups, and the company is on track to achieve profitability within its streaming business by 2026. As of 30 June 2024, RTL Group had 6.273 million paying subscribers for its streaming services RTL+ in Germany and Hungary and M6+ in France, a year-on-year increase of 24.8%. The German streaming service will be integrated into the RTL-owned Bedrock technology platform by 2026.
Since its launch in mid-May 2024, the M6+ app has been downloaded 2.2 million times (40% on connected TVs) and is now available on all connected TV devices in France. Average monthly active users increased by 33% to 21.3 million in the first half of 2024, while the number of hours viewed rose by 23% to 322 million.
