Starlink, the satellite internet company founded by Elon Musk, has been granted a license by the Telecommunications Regulatory Commission of Sri Lanka (TRCSL) to offer its services in the South Asian country. This move comes after a meeting between Sri Lankan President Ranil Wickremesinghe and Musk in Indonesia, where they discussed speeding up the application process for Starlink in Sri Lanka. The goal is to enhance the country’s access to high-speed internet through satellite technology.
The announcement of the license was made on August 13. It allows Starlink Lanka to offer its services across Sri Lanka, providing satellite broadband to the country’s 22 million residents.
"The license has already come into effect," said a spokesperson for Starlink. "This is a significant step forward for Sri Lanka as it looks to give more people access to high-speed internet.”
Musk's trip to Indonesia in May saw the expansion of Starlink services to both Indonesia and Fiji. Now, with the addition of Sri Lanka, Starlink continues to expand its global reach, bringing its high-speed satellite internet to more regions around the world.
