Blackmagic Design has announced a substantial upgrade to its Blackmagic Cloud platform, introducing several key features designed to bolster collaboration and streamline workflows. The update includes a new icon view with scrubbable thumbnails for quick footage previews, and a dedicated inspector panel for convenient clip metadata viewing.

A significant addition is the ability to share presentations with clients who aren't Blackmagic Cloud members via a URL. This facilitates seamless collaboration and allows for group chats directly within the platform. Existing Blackmagic Cloud users will find these features immediately available.

The new icon view, selectable from the top right of the window, displays thumbnail icons for media files. Users can scrub through clips by hovering over the thumbnails. Even in list view, icons now reflect file contents, enhancing media identification. While most media has been converted, some processing remains and will be completed shortly. Blackmagic Cloud supports a variety of common media formats, with unsupported formats shown as generic icons.

A new metadata inspector panel on the right provides access to a selected clip’s metadata via a dedicated info icon. A scrollable media view simplifies clip selection in list view. The update also allows for sharing presentations with non-members via a generated URL, streamlining client collaboration and enabling group chats.

Furthermore, the Blackmagic Cloud login window has been localized into several languages, including German, Chinese, Spanish, French, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Polish, Portuguese, Turkish, and Ukrainian.

Blackmagic Cloud facilitates global sharing of DaVinci Resolve projects, enabling collaboration among editors, colorists, visual effects artists, and audio engineers, fostering a truly global workflow. Integrated with DaVinci Resolve, Blackmagic Design cameras, and the Blackmagic Camera app, its functionality is widely accessible.

The system leverages the ability of cameras like the Cinema Camera 6K, PYXIS, URSA Cine, and URSA Broadcast G2 to record full-resolution HD proxies in H.264. These are live-synced to Blackmagic Cloud and DaVinci Resolve workstations connected to the same project. The cinematographer simply logs into the project via the camera interface; syncing is automatic.

The editor can edit while the colorist color corrects; a multi-sync feature supports multiple cameras, allowing the editor to select the best angle. The playback seamlessly continues as media syncs, with the play indicator jumping back as segments arrive. A red record indicator on the clip icon signifies ongoing recording.

This allows for concurrent post-production and shooting. For news workflows, a camera like the Ursa Broadcast G2 can sync to the editing system as events unfold, enabling immediate editing and broadcast.

“Since we launched Blackmagic Cloud we have been continuously updating and releasing new features to make it even easier for customers to share and collaborate globally,” said Grant Petty, Blackmagic Design CEO. “Customers have continued to provide feedback and we are excited to be able to add the ability to preview clips in a thumbnail, view clip metadata and review clips with clients who are not members of Blackmagic Cloud using a simple URL!”

The new features are available immediately and free of charge.
