Blackmagic Design has opened pre-orders for the Blackmagic Ursa Cine Immersive camera, the first commercially available system designed to capture Apple Immersive Video for the Apple Vision Pro. Deliveries are slated to begin in early 2025. A corresponding update to DaVinci Resolve Studio, scheduled for early next year, will provide professional filmmakers with a complete workflow for producing Apple Immersive Video.
Apple Immersive Video is a 180-degree format that uses ultra-high-resolution immersive video and Spatial Audio for a deeply engaging viewer experience. “We are excited to begin accepting pre-orders for the new Blackmagic Ursa Cine Immersive camera and preview a true end-to-end workflow for Apple Immersive Video with DaVinci Resolve,” said Grant Petty, Blackmagic Design CEO. “We are looking forward to working closely with filmmakers and production companies on the Blackmagic production workflow for Apple Immersive Video before releasing the camera to a wider audience later in 2025. We can’t wait to see the amazing action, drama, concerts, sports and other incredible experiences our customers will capture in this powerful new format pioneered by Apple.”
The Blackmagic Ursa Cine Immersive boasts a fixed, custom lens system pre-installed, optimized for capturing Apple Immersive Video. The sensor provides 8160 x 7200 resolution per eye, with pixel-level synchronization and 16 stops of dynamic range, enabling the shooting of 90fps 3D immersive cinema content to a single file. The lens system’s accurate positional data, calibrated and stored on the device, is embedded in the Blackmagic RAW file throughout post-production.
A new DaVinci Resolve Studio version, releasing in Q1 2025, will feature tools for editing, color grading, and producing Apple Immersive Video footage. Key additions include an immersive video viewer for panning, tilting, and rolling clips on 2D monitors or Apple Vision Pro, and the ability to bypass Apple Vision Pro transitions using FCP XML metadata for clean master files. Export presets facilitate quick output for direct viewing on Apple Vision Pro.
The Ursa Cine platform is known for its robust magnesium alloy chassis and lightweight carbon fiber polycarbonate composite skin. Connectivity options include 12G-SDI, 10G Ethernet, USB-C, and XLR audio. A foldable monitor features a 5″ HDR touchscreen and an external color status LCD. A dedicated assist station with a second 5″ HDR touchscreen allows for on-set collaboration without external monitors. Power is supplied via an 8-pin Lemo connector compatible with 24V and 12V supplies.
The Blackmagic Ursa Cine Immersive includes a 250W power supply, B-mount battery plate, top handle, Wi-Fi antennas, baseplate, and an 8TB high-performance network storage that records directly to the Blackmagic Media Module, syncing with Blackmagic Cloud and DaVinci Resolve media bins in real time. This allows for over 2 hours of 8K stereoscopic 3D immersive Blackmagic RAW recording. The new Blackmagic RAW Immersive file format simplifies immersive video post-production, supporting Blackmagic global media sync and storing essential metadata.
Blackmagic Ursa Cine Immersive integrates high-capability Cloud Store technology, enabling high-resolution recording and access via 10G Ethernet. It also creates a smaller H.264 proxy file for quicker cloud uploads. The Blackmagic Media Dock, supporting up to three Blackmagic Media Modules, accelerates post-production by providing high-speed access to media from multiple cameras. Four 10G Ethernet ports enable multiple workstations to connect directly.
Blackmagic Ursa Cine Immersive is available for pre-order at $29,995 (US), with deliveries starting in late Q1 2025. Reseller availability follows later in the year.
