Blackmagic Design has opened pre-orders for the Blackmagic Ursa Cine Immersive camera, a pioneering system for capturing Apple Immersive Video destined for Apple Vision Pro. Deliveries are slated for early 2025.
DaVinci Resolve Studio will receive a crucial update early next year, adding support for editing Apple Immersive Video. This provides a complete professional workflow for filmmakers creating content for Apple Vision Pro. Apple Immersive Video uses a 180-degree format, combining ultra-high-resolution video with Spatial Audio for an unparalleled viewing experience. “We are excited to begin accepting pre-orders for the new Blackmagic Ursa Cine Immersive camera and preview a true end-to-end workflow for Apple Immersive Video with DaVinci Resolve,” stated Grant Petty, Blackmagic Design CEO. “We are looking forward to working closely with filmmakers and production companies on the Blackmagic production workflow for Apple Immersive Video before releasing the camera to a wider audience later in 2025. We can’t wait to see the amazing action, drama, concerts, sports and other incredible experiences our customers will capture in this powerful new format pioneered by Apple.”
The Ursa Cine Immersive boasts a fixed, custom lens system pre-installed, perfectly designed for Apple Immersive Video. Its sensor achieves 8160 x 7200 resolution per eye, with pixel-level synchronization and 16 stops of dynamic range, enabling the capture of 90fps 3D immersive cinema content to a single file. The lens system's accurate positional data, calibrated and stored on the device, is embedded within the Blackmagic RAW file throughout post-production.
A new DaVinci Resolve Studio version (Q1 2025) includes tools for editing, color grading, and producing Apple Immersive Video. Features include a new immersive video viewer for panning, tilting, and rolling clips; the ability to bypass Apple Vision Pro transitions using FCP XML metadata; and export presets for direct viewing on Apple Vision Pro.
The Ursa Cine platform, known for its robust magnesium alloy chassis and lightweight carbon fiber design, offers 12G-SDI out, 10G Ethernet, USB-C, XLR audio, and a dual 5″ HDR touchscreen setup. An 8-pin Lemo power connector supports 24V and 12V supplies. The Ursa Cine Immersive includes a 250W power supply, B-mount battery plate, top handle, antennas, baseplate, and a 24V power supply.
With 8TB of built-in storage, recording directly to the Blackmagic Media Module and syncing to Blackmagic Cloud and DaVinci Resolve in real time, users can capture over 2 hours of 8K stereoscopic 3D immersive Blackmagic RAW. The Blackmagic RAW Immersive file format simplifies the post-production workflow, including Blackmagic global media sync and metadata preservation.
The Ursa Cine Immersive integrates high-speed Cloud Store technology, enabling high-resolution recording and access via 10G Ethernet. H.264 proxy file creation allows for quick cloud uploads. The Blackmagic Media Dock allows for high speed access to media from multiple cameras simultaneously.
The Blackmagic Ursa Cine Immersive is available for pre-order at $29,995 (US), with deliveries starting in late Q1 2025.
